***This is a seasonal position starting from June through September with the potential of becoming full-time.

Summary: Insures the correct, timely and safe delivery of Griffin Greenhouse Supplies products to customer locations. Represents the Company in a professional manner while interfacing with customers on product, delivery, and other related issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Drives truck to destination while abiding by load safety, DOT and general safe driving guidelines. Able to drive 26,001 gross vehicle weight or more.
  • Uses city, county, state maps & GPS.
  • Listens to customer complaints ensuring that the appropriate department and/or personnel receive the complaint.
  • Provides feedback to supervisor regarding customer complaints, or issues on pricing, quality, credit or need for sales representative interaction.
  • Ensures the accuracy of bill of ladings and hazardous shipping paperwork.
  • Collects payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges.
  • Maintains truck log, mileage report, and other mandated forms according to state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains constant communication with supervisor on all aspects of delivery, traffic, weather conditions, and equipment.
  • Unloads and loads truck by hand or uses pallet jack or hand truck to make deliveries when feasible.
  • Inspects truck, trailer, tires, lights, brakes, oil, and water to ensure load safety while complying with DOT standards.
  • Performs minor repairs on clearance lights, and adjusts brakes if needed.
  • Checks and breaks down loads frequently to ensure that product ride safely. Secures product with load bars or straps.
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and adherence to work schedules

Education and/or Experience: 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and/or Tractor Training School one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

  • Possesses appropriate and current CDL B driver's license with hazardous material endorsement.
  • Proven history of safe driving as mandated by state MVR reports.
  • Must be able to pass DOT regulated physical and drug screen upon hire, renewal, and randomly.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
  • Required to use various hand tools, load bar, straps, and cell phone.
  • Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people -- internal and external.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize truckloads and delivery schedules.
  • Vision correctable to within normal range for vehicle driving and completion of reports.
  • Excellent navigational skills with ability to read maps, roads signs, etc

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires prolonged sitting, frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and climbing. Ability to move or lift products and materials of varied sizes and widths, sometimes in excess of 100 pounds.
