Foliar Diseases

New pesticides are always welcome, especially when they bring
new modes of action to the industry or bring relief to underserved
crops. Significant benefits are on the way this spring, in the form
of several new fungicides. Before we dig into the highlights, it’s
good to be reminded: Even the best fungicides will fail if we
don’t optimize the environment to suppress diseases. Manage
for success by monitoring and optimizing temperature, humidity,
irrigation practices, air movement, crop spacing and plant nutrition
to decrease disease risk. Add effective fungicides to that mix, and
you are well on your way to minimizing losses from foliar diseases.
With those cultural thoughts in mind, it’s time to throw open the
tool box and see what shiny new tools are inside.
