Silicon (Si) is not considered
an essential element for plant
growth, but you might say it is
auditioning for a more important
role in horticulture. Silicon is the
second most abundant mineral
element in soil so perhaps it is
worth our while to take a closer
look. Researchers are revisiting
this element for horticultural
purposes and what they are
finding may interest you. If the
potential for reducing insects,
mites, pathogens, as well as
certain biotic and abiotic stresses
