Micronutrients Matter
By Fred Hulme, Ph.D. Technical Service Director, ICL Specialty Fertilizers, Americas T&O
Micronutrients like iron and manganese are often called “minor elements” and
that designation might make one think they do not play key roles in overall
plant development and growth. This could not be further from the truth. While
micronutrients are present in plant tissue at much lower levels (parts per million)
compared to nitrogen or potassium (percentage); they are equally important to vital
processes like photosynthesis. Without an adequate supply of all micronutrients,
one simply cannot grow a high-quality crop.
