Spectra is versatile in a range of light conditions and can be grown in either TM
sun or shade. This makes the series easy for gardeners and landscapers to SPECTRA MAGENTA
use and takes the guesswork out of planting location. Spectra has similar vigor
as the Sonic series New Guinea Impatiens but flowers up to 2 weeks earlier.
A big differentiator from other hybrid impatiens and traditional New Guineas is
how beautiful Spectra finishes for retail sales. Uniform mounded habits, large
flowers, and pots covered with bright colors create show-stopping plants at
retail. The medium vigor of Spectra makes the series suitable for all container
sizes, from jumbo packs to hanging baskets. Spectra can either be direct
stuck into final pots or transplanted from liners. Growers who trialed Spectra
have produced some of the most beautiful hanging baskets with 3 plants per
                10-inch or 4 plants per 12-inch basket.
In technical trials at Lucas Greenhouse, Spectra Magenta had 120% more
flowers, 7% larger flowers, and finished 1 week earlier than Magnum
                Magenta.
Syngenta Flowers' breeder Jaemin Lee has been breeding New Guinea
Impatiens for several years and developed Spectra to innovate the New MAGNUM MAGENTA
Guinea Impatiens class. During product development, Spectra was trialed
in diverse climates from north to south, and varieties were selected for both
greenhouse and garden performances. In outdoor trials, varieties were
chosen for flowering in both sun and shade conditions. In locations where
summer storms are frequent, Spectra recovers fast because of the profusion
of flower buds on each plant. Our breeding program on Spectra is very active
and more varieties will be added in the coming years.
The growing requirements for Spectra are similar to traditional New Guinea
impatiens and hybrid impatiens. During spring, finish time is approximately
7-8 weeks in quarts and 9-10 weeks in baskets. Culture information can be
found on the Syngenta Flowers website. For fall finishing in southern markets,
unrooted cuttings of Spectra will be available beginning week 30, 2021.
