More CAST Superlatives

As I mentioned, it was a banner year for introductions at the California Spring Trials
(CAST). In addition to the dozens of annuals covered in our print edition, here are
some notable perennial and edible picks you’ll want to consider.
Early bird coreopsis
Double the Sun coreopsis, new from PanAmerican Seed, is just the ticket to capture
the first perennial sales of the season. This ultra-early variety finishes up to three
weeks ahead of Early Sunrise in cool, early-season weather, and up to two weeks
earlier for summer finish. It’s first-year flowering on a controlled plant habit that
doesn’t skimp on flower size. Double the Sun produces semi-double, golden yellow
flowers comparable in size to Early Sunrise or SunKiss.
