Hydroponic and Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) growers encounter specific challenges that can impact yield and crop quality, such as nutrient lockout, salt accumulation in reservoirs, and inconsistent root development. To address these issues, BioSafe Systems is proud to offer SOS, a proprietary microbial inoculant designed specifically for these growing environments.
SOS is a liquid inoculant featuring over 19 strains of carefully selected, naturally occurring beneficial bacteria that work synergistically to enhance plant performance and health. Developed using advanced fermentation processes, SOS harnesses hyper-vigorous strains of beneficial bacteria, making it an essential tool for high-intensity production systems.
The Engine of Nutrient Cycling
In hydroponic systems, nutrient availability is everything. SOS supports the breakdown of tied-up macro and micronutrients, increasing accessibility in the root zone. SOS also breaks down decaying organic matter, prevents harsh salt buildup, and helps remediate toxins that may be present in the water supply. The result is a cleaner system and a more favorable growing environment from propagation to finish.
SOS promotes an expansive root system with increased fine root hairs, which improve water and nutrient uptake throughout the plant’s lifecycle. The beneficial bacteria also help crops naturally signal for more nutrients, strengthen their internal processes, and better handle environmental stress like heat, salinity, and fluctuating conditions.
Third-Party Results
Replicated trials, conducted in Salinas, CA on romaine lettuce, grown under saline conditions, showed meaningful differences between treated and untreated plots. Plants treated with SOS averaged 33 oz. per plant at harvest compared to 31 oz. for controls, a resulting in a 6.5% improvement. Yield increased to approximately 75,638 lbs per acre versus 66,558 lbs for the control group, a 14% increase.
